Often a word problem’s main point does not appear until the end of the problem.  Often

there are many variables described in a word problem, so it is difficult to keep track of all

the information. The SQRQCQ Strategy helps students to organize information.

Checklist

_____ SURVEY       Read the problem quickly to become familiar with it.

_____ QUESTION  Ask yourself, what information does the problem require.

_____ READ             Read the problem to identify relevant information, and details needed to solve it.

_____ QUESTION  Ask what must be done to solve the problem, what mathematical operations are

required and in what order

_____ COMPUTE   Compute the answer.

_____ QUESTION  Ask if the solution process seems correct and the answer reasonable.
