WHAT IS: Content Area Reading?

Content area reading refers to students understanding what they read in content area courses.  Content area courses are any course besides English Literature, such as math, history, biology, social science, etc. Content area subjects all have special vocabulary and concepts that students must master.

Content area reading relates to readability.  The ease with which a text can be read is referred to as readability.  Math books are the hardest books to read, followed closely by science books.

There are many techniques a teacher can use to improve readability and content area reading. This website will show some of these techniques.
